Owen "Boots" Ott

Owen “Boots” Ott, 80, of Fayette, died Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette with Rev. Herbert Mueller, III officiating.  Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 8th, at Becker-Milnes Funeral home in Fayette and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be made in his name to Maple Crest Manor in Fayette. 

Owen Arnold, son of Adelbert “Dick” and Myra Schlatter Ott, was born February 10, 1934, near Hawkeye in rural Fayette County, Iowa. He was baptized April 15, 1934, near Hawkeye and confirmed April 10, 1949, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Richfield. He graduated from Alpha Consolidated High School on May 20, 1953, and attended Wartburg College for two years. On August 20, 1966, he was united in marriage with Betty Weidemann Schmidt at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Richfield. He taught country school prior to starting Ott’s Flower Shop in 1962. He later worked maintenance at Prairie View Residential Care Facility, drove school bus, and prior to retiring worked maintenance at Upper Iowa University. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette, the Volga Valley Conservation Club, and sang with the Hawkmen Barbershop Quartet. Boots enjoyed quilting, hunting, fishing, gardening, singing, Chicago Cubs baseball, and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, Betty of Fayette, he is survived by four daughters, Cindy (Dean) Vandersee of West Des Moines, Sandra (Mike) Prochaska of Stewartville, Minnesota, Shelly (Nils) Nesheim of Johnston, and Marcia (Darrin) Fidler of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; and six brothers, Erv (Lana) Ott of Spillville, Bill (Lois) Ott of Elkader, Dale (Kathy) Ott of Alpha, Rodney (Ruth) Ott of Bend, Oregon, Gene (Jane) Ott of Winton, Minnesota, and Duane (Marge) Ott of Farmington, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clifford.
